A refined concrete structure helps a new mixed-use building blend with Jack London Square's rich history.
This mixed-use residential building in Oakland's Jack London Square draws inspiration from the light-industrial character of the historic wharf district. The exposed-concrete exterior highlights Tipping's ability to marry utility and aesthetics. The structural design employs post-tensioned flat slabs braced with a dual lateral system, which use perimeter moment frames and interior shear walls. The structure is supported by a continuous mat slab on native soils that were improved by soil-cement mixing, eliminating the need for deep foundations.
The 152,000-sq-ft, 8-story concrete building includes 96 residential units, as well as commercial and retail functions and above-grade parking to enhance the residents' experience.
